competition: win some philips headphones!!!

I’m off on holiday, but will be giving away a pair of the philips downtown denims (blue as pictured above) once I return and will pick a winner from the responses to the following question:

What is your favourite “headphones song”?

Open-ended question right? Well, I’m looking for really good answers. Not the “best” songs, just a great answer, hopefully with some reasoning. Be it funny, appreciative, revolving around an anecdote or even just darn love of a song, whatever you will it to be!

MY current favourite is Howlin’ Wolf’s “Smokestack Lightnin’” from his album Moanin’ in the Moonlight (1956)

Recently re-read Kerouac’s On The Road and the album was a great complimentary flavour. “Smokestack Lightnin’” just kills it with a raw emotionality and the downright dirty melodic hooks.

Looking forward to your entries!

You can just disappear into the album and with a nice set of headphones on, block out the real world and escape for a while.

It’s got to be Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”. I remember spending most of the late 90s listening to that song through my dad’s Sony MDR-D55 headphones plugged into our massive stereo- that ending bassline!

Echo & The Bunnymen – ‘The Killing Moon’ because it’s the most epic song ever written, especially through good quality headphones.

    The Cure- Plainsong

Frankly I could have chosen any number of Robert Smith’s recordings for my entry, but this is the first track off my favorite LP by The Cure, ‘Disintegration’. The cacophony of synthesizers, bass and drums that explodes at the beginning of the song is an excellent start to a great atmospheric album, which is best listened to with headphones on.

    Red Fang – Prehistoric Dog

Not like most other stuff that comes out of Portland, this song in particular is the sort of thing I find myself humming and tapping along to when i’m listening to it on journeys, whether the bus is empty or not.. its the perfect mix of stoner metal, beer culture and nerd humour. And those vocals… god damn.

    Completely absorbing.

    Stupid – Bobby Womack

This beauty is at the very top of my ‘Bobby Playlist’ and for good reason. After being introduced to it by a charming man, it’s now regularly sung from my headphones when I am having my alone time, wherever that may be.

    A laugh/cry song.

  11. I will always love you, from Whitney Houston.
With headphones on, my voice sound better and annoy other people in the house a bit more !! :)
