BEAT COMER/JENSEN/CITY

So as a frequent user of Soundcloud, and there was a mega storm happening outside, I thought I should go through my followers and listen to their tracks, which I found pretty hard because there really is a lot of weird shit on there.

Then I stumbled across Beat Comer (changed to Beat Jensen/Jansen now?), who is Trent Williams, a really rad dude from Wellington, New Zealand, and I was just smiling at my computer screen for ages and listening and I kept doing this all evening basically. His vocals are super rough and incredibly hard not to like, the guitars and drums sound perfect. His music was everything I wanted mine to be.

“When I found out about Segall my life changed. It was a realisation. At the time I had all of these clunky rhythms and weird chord progressions. You know, stuff you just fiddle with when your bored and can’t think of anything else to do apart from playing guitar, inattentive creativity I guess. As soon as I heard Lemons I suddenly had direction. I think to some extent I could hear my own style of guitar playing in the way Segall approached guitar. I listen to a lot of T.Rex, my parents were really into Marc Bolan when I was a kid, they still are. But I can see Segall is inspired by a lot of Marc Bolans early ‘Tyranosaurus Rex’ stuff. Circa 1967 – 70. So it just naturally translates into the way I sing and play guitar.”

Here are two songs by Beat Jensen, one older and one new:

STREAM: Beat Jensen – “The Short Tale of Alice from A Wonderful Land” + “Lovers”

I (KEEL HER) am doing a split cassette release with Beat Jensen(/Jansen) and I am so excited.

After Rose wrote this, he’s gone changed again to Beat City!
