LUELLA / TEENAGE HANDS TIED

Emerging East London outfit Paradise have only put two tracks on their delightful Bandcamp page, but that those two are arresting enough to really draw you in, attests to a certain quality that Paradise possess. It’s “Luella”, the first of the two, that shines most here, conjuring the atmospheric sounds of dark, dingy corners juxtaposed against bright vocals that strive to break free. It’s titular chorus, by the end of the song, becomes hypnotic and you’ll understandably be craving more. “Teenage Hands Tied” seems very much the b-side of the two tracks, with electronic flourishes that sporadically burst upon the song’s slow drawl it’s a good point of reference and further example of the group’s competence at composing their particular brand of future-pop. We wait in anticipation for more. That is, more words, sounds or images, anything really. Like many groups right now, Paradise are keeping to themselves.
