(mini)REVIEW: Kalter & Åbäke – Prolouge EP

Wow. This was a really nice for the inbox. The debut release from new Swedish label Jämmerdosa, a collaborative EP from Malmö-based musicians Kalter & Åbäke which features original material as well as both remixing the other. When listening you’ll immediately think of it as a chilled out affair, although by the time you reach the end of the first track “False Dichotomy Pt. 1 & 2″ you realise the EP is more urgent and pulsing than you first imagined. Hearing Kalter’s track “Unknown Shooter” puts you in a similar position, with a sound that seems to simultaneously calm and invigorate. The self-titled track by Kalter is remixed, of course, by Åbäke, and the result is a track based around a hypnotic beat that will keep you moving and not let you stop. The EP really shines though, in my opinion with the last song, Kalter remixes “Through”, that has been described to me as a “less melodic Royksopp, but in a good way,” a sentiment I totally agree with. I like the relaxed vibe it has going, the song itself is still chilled, but not slow or stilted so it’s boring. It grab my attention and hasn’t let go.
