RARE CANDY: Sexual Healing – Hot 8 Brass Band

Y’know what’s wicked cool? Brass bands. There really aren’t enough of them, not ones that put hip-hop into the mix. So here’s a not too old track by the Hot 8 Brass Band, who covered “Sexual Healing” back in 2007. Which is only three years ago, but the motown feel of the track gives it that sepia nostalgia. What I believe is the trombone, keeps the track going for a good 8 minutes, and not once does it feel old. Not to mention the drums, that manage to combine a samba style to the track.
Being a predominantly instrumental track, with a bit of chanting half way through, it does “Sexual Healing” justice, which relied heavily on Marvin Gaye’s killer vocals.
It has been three years since they released anything, which is sad, the album is pretty killer it self. Hopefully we might see some more, but for now, we’ll just have to live with out a sweet hip hop brass band.
