SAY WHAT?: BRASSTRONAUT

Whilst my flatmates play outside with their hackie sack they just found, I was trawling the internet, and I found a link to a blog, this blog in particular: BRASSTRONAUT. I quickly found this is a bands blog. Hailing from Canada, Brasstronaut are hard to summarize, they remind me of Sigur Ros but quieter and more pop fueled. I have always liked folkish orchestral pop music, it’s something about the way the songs are written, in a way they make you feel intelligent listening to them, Brasstronaut have the feeling. Not only that, but brass instruments are amazing in the right context.
One track that took my attention was “Slow Knots”, which when it has got going starts to sound a bit like Foals and Vampire Weekend, but not directly. It actually has some points where it starts to become a little jazz orientated. It’s one of the tracks that really creeps up on you, you don’t really expect it to be good until its finished and your a little bewildered as to what just happened.
What’s more is that they are releasing their debut album on the 8th of November, “Mt. Chimaera” on tri-tone records. After listening to most of it on their myspace, it is most definitely worth investing in. Y’know how you get music that works really well in the summer? Brasstronaut are like that for winter.
