Kurt Vile for a While

Kurt

Kurt Vile is a lo-fi, psychedelic folk melody maker from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His long hair could rival that of Christopher Owens or Richard Wright during the Floyd days. The music produced by the man constantly changes your views on it, I could place some songs in definite categories but it would be very difficult with a whole album. Half of his 2008 debut CD, ‘Constant Hitmaker’ sounds as if its being played from the underwater world of your bath, with distorted yet mellow tones that would do great in a warm café, whereas the other half have a downright fast convertible, Springsteeness to them. Kurt’s lo fidelity work is part of an increasingly large movement, which includes the likes of Ariel Pink and Sore Eros, that’s glorifying the home recording noise that R. Stevie Moore started in the 1970’s. Check out Kurt Vile’s Square Shells EP – out 25th of May on Matador.
