AHHHH SHIT: Ghost Eyes
Ahhh Shit is a recurring post on any new band, song or video that have recently grabbed my attention. Yes, the title is a reference to the opening of Potholderz by MF Doom
I’ve been sent loads of terrible stuff over the last two and a bit years that I’ve been writing this blog. So you’ll understand how pleasantly surprised I was to open up an email by Ghost Eyes, a band I soon realised are fantastic and are coincidently going on tour with both Banjo or Freakout and the illustrious Gold Panda. Listening to Ghost Eyes you can instantly understand the pairing. They are glitched out motherfucker(s).
Phantom Mountain

The reason I put that bracket is that I’m not really sure how many are in the band. I know one name, Matthew, due to correspondence but their myspace, Twitter and Facebook are all equally sparse with information. It definitely adds to a sense of intrigue.

But these two songs themselves are fucking brilliant, I mean, it’s not the kind of thing you’d associate with that ominous picture of delicate running legs, there is anger, stress and a ghostly vocal that sounds hard to repress. Those glitchy electronics and the HEALTH-like wall of noise make for something brilliant. The wailing, the brilliant sampling, coupled with guitar parts that reminisce of recent James Blake songs, sounding sparse and almost shallow whilst being juxtaposed against loud, droning beats.
Both “Phantom Mountain” and “Elephant” are songs you need in your life. Ghost Eyes is a band you need in your life.
