HYPE: Parties
The mysterious and therefore incredibly enigmatic Parties simply sent me a soundcloud link by email. And that’s all I’ve needed to become hooked to their playful jams. Simple and effective, the seemingly teenage and docile lyrics contrast with the upbeat, quick and melodic music. After trying to chase them up for more info, they replied with the following cryptic email:
“Hey man,
Write what ever you feel about the songs. They are as much about you as they are about us. This part is all about you my friend.
Stay cool bruv,
Parties”
You can’t help but agree with them, there’s something relatable that underpins the songs, perhaps a yearning for simplicity and easy-going fun. “Say Something” is an addictive attack on the silent types whilst “Happy Birthday” comes across as a brilliantly apt celebration. It’s on “Happy Birthday”‘s chorus that they sing, “So, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthda-ay, Happy Birthday, did you get what you wanted?” As long as it’s more material by Parties, I’m sure we’ll be alright.
